Interactive Vector-Based Topographic 3D Maps

Hinweis: Die folgende Seite ist im Aufbau und nicht vollständig.

Summary

The goal of this project is the design and implementation of an efficient software for the generation, visualization of interactive 3D topographic maps. The user must be able to move in real time through the virtual 3D cartographic model (fly-in) and to perceive the information as undisturbed as possible. Concerning data we are using the digital elevation model DHM25 and the vector dataset VECTOR25-200. The system must offer simple GIS functionalities permitting the user to execute queries and to receive additional information about the cartographic model during his virtual travel. Because we are dealing with a cartographic model, our aim is not realistic landscape rendering, but cartographic symbolization in the space.

Main research points:
- design of 3D maps (3D symbolization)
- geometric modeling and generalisation of 3D-Objects
- real time visualisation on desktop computer
