Summary

The aim of the STATLAS project is the development of an integrated electronic atlas of statistical information, covering European Union at a country and regional level. The atlas consists of carefully designed maps and 3D displays supported by a custom-made interface and a number of functions which make it possible to collect, portray and compare statistical data in a spatial context.

Data can be called up and analyses made for both statistical and topographical information. Displays can be tailored to user needs, generating multiple advantages and offering unlimited capabilities. It provides an interactive information and education vehicle for specialists, students at all levels and the broad public. STATLAS is intended for business as well as government and private institutions and can be used as an interdisciplinary research tool. As an integrated teaching tool it will be ideal for all conventional forms of teaching and learning, offering particular support for project related and individually regulated work.
