GIS Based Groundwater Management and Risk Assessment System

Hinweis: Die folgende Seite ist im Aufbau.

Summary

As over 50% of the European population are supplied largely or entirely by groundwater, the management of the water resource in terms of availability and quality represents a challenge. Groundwater is particularly vulnerable towards pollution and overexploitation. Currently, no integrated systems for the management and the protection of this major resource are available. The purpose of this interdisciplinary project is to create a European concept and an information tool using GIS and network based hydrogeological databases. This involves a large spectrum information related to: hydrogeology, geology, hydrology, meteorology, water engineering, land management, and environment. Starting from the real data showing a correct database organisation, expert query scenarios will be developed to optimise the groundwater decision making and research processes. Further developments relate the proposed hydrogeological spatial database to groundwater analysis made by process based modelling and statistics. This tool will assist water authorities in risk analysis and environmental impact assessment.
